Reducing Fuel Costs in Offshore Sport Fishing Boats

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 26, 2007 -- With today's skyrocketing fuel prices, fuel economy is more important than ever for sport fishermen. The standard configuration features a diesel engine mated to I/O drive to provide amazing fuel economy and long range.

Recent testing of an Ocean Skiff 27 outfitted for a European search and rescue agency yielded 9.7 mpg in real world use. This is a tremendous increase in efficiency over traditional outboard powered center consoles which often get just 1-2 mpg or less. The fuel savings can be dramatic - a whole day of fishing can be done on less than $30 of diesel fuel.

While this increased fuel economy will be immediately appreciated by the owner, another benefit is longer range on a single tank. This increases the area that a fisherman can cover in search of offshore fish such as marlin, swordfish, tuna and dolphin. The Ocean Skiff 27 diesel holds 150-gallons of fuel, yielding a range of over 1,100 miles with an adequate safety reserve. Long fishing runs to the offshore canyons or Caribbean islands are now within easy reach. Engines options include 250-hp and 320-hp diesels, with a 350-hp option available in early 2008.

The boat is based on the Ocean Master 27 hull that has been in production for a number of years. It is a proven design that is seaworthy, safe and ideally suited to sport fishing. The center console layout provides 360-degree fishability, absolutely critical to serious anglers.

Ocean Master boats have long enjoyed a reputation for ruggedness and are a mainstay of professional charter fishing operations including world renowned fishing lodges Pesca Panama and Golfito Sailfish Rancho. Indeed the first boat launched in the new line was acquired by a European Search & Rescue agency.

How tough are Ocean Master boats? They can easily stand up to a large caliber bullet fired at point blank range. Just ask the Navy, which has a fleet of Ocean Masters stationed in one of their most isolated bases. These boats have been run day in and day out in some of the roughest sea conditions imaginable and have surpassed 300,000 miles of use. That's the equivalent of 12 times around the globe.

When designing the new model, Ocean Master President Mark Hauptner's goal was to make it trailerable for the average boat owner. The beam is 8'6", meaning it can be trailered in all 50 states without a special permit. The hull weighs in at a reasonable 3,000 pounds, towable without resorting to super-duty pickups

For those anglers seeking more protection from the weather, an optional pilothouse version is available. The pilothouse affords full enclosure while still allowing unobstructed 360-fishability.
